selamat hari raya!
i just found out this kuih raya is actually a real kuih raya... i thought it's something like the store-bought jellies with sugar sprinkles, but it's not! Mom told me it's basically a dried agar-agar. it's dried until all the moisture content dries out and the sugar crystals appear! so cool. i should try it out some day kan?

aidilfitri

forgot to leave a post before leaving off for Raya.
spent my aidilfitri with my family at home and in laws in Pahang.

oh, i spotted the most beautiful vintage cake stand sold at a local supermarket in Jerantut. it looks something like this:

it's sold in a box of 3, different sizes, and it's only rm30! CRAZY!
but i didn't end up buying it. im saving up to get a basic white one for my collection of cake stands and bakeware. start with the basics first!

making s'mores

Been having cravings on this little campfire snack. I keep telling everyone how seriously good it is, and how nice it would be if i could make some. I did try s'mores at cafes in KL but none satisfy my cravings. None were like what I always imagine. It's so simple yet so hard to come by.

then one day, i was browsing the aisles in Jaya Grocer, and i spotted what would make my dream come true: Graham crackers! (Mind you, graham crackers are rare in KL. i dont know why, it's just crackers, but maybe there's no demand? so this spotting was a miracle.)

so my mission to make MY own s'mores is on.

i love that i also have a torch (for creme brulee) so i could also melt my marshmallows this way.

so first layer: 1 graham cracker square.

2nd layer: hershey's chocolate. (i ran out of this so i used cadbury's dairy milk chocolate)

3rd layer: marshmallows. torch 'em till they melt.

4th layer: 1 graham cracker square. sandwich it and squeeze.

mmmm!

see how super easy it is? and yes, it tastes just like how i imagined it to be! everything tastes better when you make it yourself. :)

grey interior

i've always been so drawn to grey things especially household products. ultimately i would want my apartment (which we are still waiting to finish up) to be primarily grey. so many colours you can play around with, with grey!

greyish wooden finishing against the natural sunlight. BEAUTIFUL!

a nice grey cement panel for the kitchen racks, goes well with white furniture and dark wood

*gasp* grey and glass exterior!

macarons

my first ever blog post! how exciting!

as some of you might already know, macarons are one of the toughest cookie to make. its proven true for me. i've tried so many times, too many, and failed miserably. so when a batch works, it's like a miracle to me!

today marks the first day i sell these lil french delectables.
i made 3 flavours in total: green tea matcha macarons with raspberry cream cheese filling, chocolate macarons, and salted caramel macarons.

the result was quite surprising, the chocolate yielded the best shells! feet were high and didn't deflate in oven.

i should make them again this weekend...if i have all the time in the world i would!
